Fallen Fruit is giving away fruit trees this Sunday from 12-3pm at Machine Project's space in Echo Park as part of an experiment to make our city's public spaces greener and sweeter. If you are one of the first 90 people to arrive you will be given a fruit tree and instructions to plant and nurture it in a place accessible to the public. I like this idea.
Mario Diaz, originator of LA's two raunchiest gay nights, Big Fat Dick & Swallow, is having a yard sale this Sunday. I can only imagine the goodies to be found in his yard: miscellaneous helmets, vintage 3-D porn, slightly used jock straps, mustache wax, blow-up Gary Coleman dolls. The imagination runs wild.
Forget the Festival of Lights, The Nutcracker Suite, or Disney's Madagascar Christmas on Ice. Hollywood's must-see attraction this holiday season is L. Ron Hubbard's Winter Wonderland.
Last night around 7:30pm someone in my neighborhood near Crescent Heights and Melrose launched a 10-minute-long choreographed fireworks spectacular that rivaled the Hollywood Bowl on the fourth of July. It got everyone West of Hollywood out onto their balconies and people were pouring into the streets to see if we were under attack. No sirens came later, no helicopters or ambulances. It was as if it never happened.
What in the hell was that all about?? Is November 23 some sort of gay holiday I don't know about? Did someone just sober up, hear that Obama was elected and press ignite on their planned celebratory display? Did I imagine it in my drunken stupor??

I joined friends and thousands more in the streets of downtown L.A. yesterday to protest Prop 8 on a scorching hot November morning. The Los Angeles rally was one of a hundred planned around the country and the world in a show of unity against the CA ban.
